How we create your panoramic tour
Because we carry out work for a variety of organisations, as well
as business, the work we do on any given day is unique. Each situation
is usually very different from the last and locations can pose their
own problems in terms of light, weather conditions and so forth.
For instance, for exterior shots, we can't always count on interesting
cloud formations and in such instances we're left to create cloud
scapes using post production techniques. Some panoramas require
up to 150 shots on an accurate purpose-built rig, which means we
have to work methodically to get everything 'in the can' - first
time on the day.
We photograph initially at between 6-12mp to get the most detail
and reduce this down in post production. Often we'll come up with
suggestions of our own for the best vantage point for a panaroma
that will provide the most interest on a complete rotation. What
may suit a photograph often doesn't provide a good spot to create
a panorama, although we do try to please.
Combined interior/exterior shots can take the picture count up
to 250 to enable us to minimise 'washout' from windows. In such
instances we use HDR photography and then combine photographs with
different light values to achieve an acceptable balance. We don't
use photographuc tripods as we prefer the robust nature of comnmercial
theodolites which keep everything rock steady during the shoot.
Finished panoramas are transferred to DVD in small, medium and
high resolution - or to order.
Recording Our Industrial Heritage
The team behind Virtual Midlands are also keen to record areas
and sites (including industrial locations) in the Midlands that
are due for demolition. We feel a virtual
tour offers a degree of permanence in recording buildings and locations
that are undergoing dramatic change.
Photographs are always useful, but a carefully constructed panorama
offers something unique that enables future generations to see how
areas have changed.

Moseley Junior School - Now Demolished But Fully Recorded in 360
We photograph a range of subjects including old schools, areas
of natural beauty and industrial
landscapes. We frequently offer our services at a low-rate or
even free of charge to organisations involved in the preservation
of old buildings and key landmarks and invite anyone involved in
such work to get in touch if they feel we could assist.
We are also keen to help promote small clubs such as scale-model
steam engines (miniature railways) and museums where funds are limited
and where the extra publicity will help boost funds to ensure the
future of such venues.
